Classes we offer

At salt + light yoga we strive to create a holistic, body-positive space where you can learn tools to create and nurture your personal well-being ~ spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically.

We offer a wide variety of classes; there's sure to be something that's a perfect fit for you!

**Please note: Classes must be booked a minimum of 1 hour before start time.**

slow + gentle

Designed to slowly and gently move the student toward healthy posture, muscle flexibility and joint mobility. Helpful to those just starting their yoga journey, those with health issues, and students recovering from minor injuries. The class moves slowly with lots of instruction.
For all levels.
Low intensity.

stretch + strength

Strength-based flow of yoga postures, designed to increase muscle strength as well as encourage flexibility, balance and alignment. Moves at a moderate pace with emphasis on alignment.
Level: Beginner to Intermediate.
Moderate Intensity.

yin + release

Slow-paced yoga where postures are held for three to five minutes per pose. Yin yoga applies moderate stress to the connective tissues, the tendons, fascia, and ligaments with the aim of increasing circulation to the joints and improving flexibility.
For all levels.
Low Intensity.

This is our most gentle, restful class.  Poses are held for 7-10 minutes each, long enough to allow the body to fully relax.  This deep relaxation is beneficial for the healing of body, mind, and spirit.

Please note that there may be some adjustments to the regularly scheduled classes.  Please check our 'Book a Class' page for our most up-to-date schedule.

please + thank you

(But, don't worry if you don't have one; mats can be rented for a toonie.)

Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to set up and sign in.

"This little LIGHT of mine, I'm gonna let it SHINE."

Harry Dixon Loes

hey there!

I'm Tianna Brittain.

West Coast girl, Yoga Teacher, Aromatherapy Student, and Self-Care Advocate.

Obsessed with: sticky buns, castles, and jumpsuits.

Just keepin' it real!

I'm a wife, mom, student, and entrepreneur.  So, I get it.

Finding time to focus on our Self-Care is tough!

And, although we all love our quiet, out-of-the-way community, sometimes the commute time required to support these needs causes OUR needs to fall to the bottom of the (dirty laundry) pile.

So, that's why I created 'Salt + Light Yoga Studio' right here in the Cinnabar Valley!

At 'Salt + Light Yoga Studio' I take a self-kindness, non-judgmental, inclusive approach to fitness.  Your holistic well-being ~ spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical ~ is my top priority.

I love to help people learn to appreciate their bodies, no matter the shape, size, or range of flexibility.

We offer a variety of classes and there's sure to be something that's a great fit for you.

No matter where you are on your life's journey, you are welcome here.

So, take the short walk and engage in some (much-needed) self-care.

You're sure to make some amazing friends and discover something about yourself along the way!

questions + answers

Why a home-based yoga studio?

For lots of reasons!  First, my goal as a yoga teacher is to give my students a safe and sacred space for growth and self-compassion.  I think that sometimes a smaller group size and intimate environment is more conducive to those goals.  Second, I believe that life is a journey of self-discovery best travelled with a supportive community.  I'd love to help you find yours!  Third, I'm a wife and mom; working from home just makes sense at this stage of my life.  So, if you're looking for a way to connect with old or new friends in a relaxed, healthy way, come spend some time with us!

What if I've never done yoga before?  Will I look silly?

Short answer?  No.  Long answer?  There is no way to be 'bad' at yoga; and, there's no way to be 'good' at it, either.  Yoga is simply a way to connect with your breath and a tool to find peace in the present moment.  Yoga is a means of self-discovery.  Learning to appreciate what your body CAN do, instead of belittling yourself for what you think you CAN'T do.  It takes time to see yourself in a new light, but we will be with you every step of the way.

Do you give hands-on adjustments?

Not without your permission.  At the studio we have 'Flip Chips'.  You'll take some circular chips at the beginning of each class and place them next to the top of your mat.  If you would like to be guided into proper alignment, you'll flip up the green 'Yes, please' side of the chip.  And, it's only a very light touch.  If you're uncomfortable with that idea, or you have an ache or pain and don't want to be touched, just flip the chip to the red, 'Not today, thanks' side.  And, don't worry, I won't ask you why!  It's your body, your choice.  And, you can flip the chip back and forth throughout your practice if you change your mind.

What are 'Flip Chips'?

Flip Chips are my way to make sure that you have the very best experience at salt + light yoga.

Every time you arrive in class you'll take 2 coloured plastic chips from the basket.  Here's what they mean:

1 double-sided Green/Red: Yes/No to gentle adjustment

1 of the following:

Purple – 'The Royal Treatment'
I'd love essential oil application to the back of my neck/shoulders/or across my brow!
Blue – 'The Semi-Royal Treatment'
I like essential oils, but please apply them to my hand so I can apply them to myself.
Orange – 'Smell Only' I'd like to smell the oils, but no application.
Yellow – 'Caution: Allergy/Aversion' Please skip me, I'm not interested in the oils.

The choice is yours!

What is 'Adaptive Yoga'?

A certification in 'Adaptive Yoga' means that I've spent time learning how to offer posture variations for a wide variety of body shapes, flexibility levels and illnesses.  I always have chairs available at the studio, so if you have mobility challenges and can't get up and down throughout class, you're welcome to do as much as you like from a seated position.  I firmly believe that Yoga is for EVERY BODY.  Please know that the suggestions that I give in class are just that; suggestions.  You are welcome to follow along with my directions or to take a resting posture at any point.  This is YOUR class.  The main thing is that you honour your own body.

What is Yoga for 12 Step and Recovery?

As a certified R-YF12S teacher, I have  additional training in: the nature of addiction, the brain and neuroscience, the 12 Step path for all addictions (including, but not limited to: alcohol, narcotics, eating disorders), self-image, trauma, and how to hold space for those in recovery.  It is my honour to hold space for those seeking tools to move toward health and peace.

What is Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TSY)? And, how does it compare to Trauma-Sensitive YogaFaith (TSYF)?

As a registered R-TSY/TSYF trainer I offer specialized classes (group and one-on-one) for those affected by a variety of trauma (e.g., human trafficking, PTSD, C-PTSD, domestic violence, Complex Trauma, sexual trauma, Yoga for Military and First Responders).

Sessions focus on developing the Mind/Body connection through physical movement, breathwork, mindfulness, and meditation.   These tools help to manage physiological responses to 'triggers'.  The goal is to empower clients with some skills to help in the transition from 'Victim' to 'Survivor'.

TSYF adds a Christ-centred, spiritual approach to holistic healing and transformation.

(Please note: I am not trained in counselling; these sessions are body-based and talk-therapy is not incorporated into these sessions.  I encourage those who are struggling with the effects of trauma to seek wise counsel from a trained mental health professional.)

Ok, I'll bite.  Where does 'salt + light' come from?

I thought you'd never ask!  'salt + light' refers to a Bible passage found in  Matthew 5:13-16.  Ok, but what does it mean??  It means to behave in a gentle, loving, accepting, and kind manner.  When we add salt to bland food, the food tastes better.  When a room is dark, light helps us to see, which gives us peace and hope.  My goal each day is the same; to make the world a little happier and to brighten the lives of those I meet.
